Patterns
Patterns, McLuhan noted, are the basis of new media grammar. In the ever connected global village, we find patterns emerging out of the information overloaded systems we participate in.
Thus, The I/O Brush prototype makes sense. Painting with patterns. Video also here. This idea takes Photoshop's Clone Stamp Tool into our everyday world.

Hi Jaka
Medium is the Massage for very explicit usage of patterns. Notice the way image and text reflect this idea.
Understanding Media for more implicit ideas regarding patterns. I.e. there are larger patterns regarding how media shapes thought.
But you also might like McLuhan's uage of "cool" in Understanding Media and how it relates to Gibson's idea of the Cool Hunter (you might also want to read Malcolm Gladwell's essay "The Coolhunt" too).
Is this writing you are doing going to be posted somewhere?

hello jeff,
scanning through your thoughts i found "Patterns, McLuhan noted, are the basis of new media grammar."
can you please tell me the source, the book, where i can find this notes.
i'm writting on the "patterns" subject and i would like to put his thoughts in context with Gibson's: Pattern Recognition, Sonic Youth: Sonic Nurse, Media Archive...
thnx!
