If you like that piece by Ray, you might like his book The Avant Garde Finds Andy Hardy.

Um, okay, I'm game ... I was checking out Dan Metzger's -The Lost Cause of Rhetoric- the other day and found a reference to Ulmer's "Handbook For A Theory Hobby" in Visible Language that I hadn't checked out before...

Soooooooooo, I checked it out, and foudn this piece by Robert Ray in the same issue called the ABC of Visual Theory that is kinda cool.

He does something different for each letter: A.pollinaire, B.oredom, C.inema, D.andyism, E.lectricity ... etc.

One that I particularly like is a under V, which for Ray references the filmmaker Dziga Vertov.

An entry on April 1st, 1941, according to Ray, is something of a motto for typographical experimentation. Vertov sez:

"What conditions will guarantee success? Everything except the boring."

... course, there's much to be said on boredom's behalf as suggested by ... well ... i forget, and sense that this post may not escape tedium!

I don't know, maybe for this blog "The Tedium is the Message."
